Overview
Rolling Stones fans, this one is for you! The story goes that in 1969, Keith Richards got his hands on an Australian Maton EG240 after someone has left it in his London apartment. Barely hanging on by a thread, he recorded much of the 1969 'Let It Bleed' album, including 'Midnight Rambler' and legendary opening track 'Gimme Shelter.' Richards later recalled in an interview that the guitar was in disrepair when recording, and the whole neck fell off on the original take of Gimme Shelter and can be heard in the original recording.
In 1964, Ray Davies of The Kinks also played a Maton EG240 on early recordings of one of their biggest hits 'You Really Got Me.'
This guitar operates fantastically as an acoustic or electric guitar. Expect a deeply resonant tone from the considerable 17" lower bout and high-grade tonewoods. The neck feels comfortable, slim and fast. The original single coil bar-magent pickup delivers a chimey, low-output vintage tone. Truly a shining star for rock and roll, blues and classic rock styles.
