Important Information
The Firebird is a small part of a rich history in Gibson lore. Originating in the early 60s to compete with Fender in the solidbody market, Firebirds were designed by Ray Dietrich, an automobile designer. President of Gibson, Ted McCarty, approached Dietrich with set parameters; 22-fret scale length, two pickups, and a tailpiece, among others. 8 days later he produced 8 design concepts, which became the Firebird! A year later, 4 models were put onto the market: the Firebird I, III, V, and VII.
The 2019 edition of the Firebird is a bit of a mix of all four original models; Crown shaped fret inlays, through-neck, reverse headstock and tuners, 2x mini humbuckers, and the signature firebird design on the pickguard.
