Overview
Lightweight and with plenty of punch. The Hi-Flier has a facinating history as one of garage rock's most notable guitars of choice. The original Univox Hi-Flier was a Matsumoku-made guitar marketed as an affordable Mosrite copy with reversed body offset. The Hi-Flier shot to stardom in the 1990s when Kurt Cobain got is hands on one, famously playing a white Hi-Flier during the 'Bleach' era and in the music video for 'Heart Shaped Box.'
Today's Hi-Flier can be described as a lightweight rock and roll workhorse. Modern Hi-Fliers also feature a slimmer neck than the original for better shredding capabilities.
This guitar has been modified for better tonal flexibility. Instead of two M-90 pickups, the bridge has been replaced with an aftermarket humbucker and coil-split switch. This change allows you the option of a fuller humbucker or, sharper vintage-style single coil tone. Ultimately, a clever mod that gives the bridge position more output, thickness and noise rejection, while the extra siwtching option brings back brighter tones when required.
