An envelope filter using the unique filter from the old EDP Wasp synth. It uses the versatile envelope follower circuit of the Brown Dog Agent 00 Funk pedal, but with an added external audio input to trigger the envelope independantly of the main input.

This allows you to retain all the lovely dynamic range of your dry signal whilst placing the filter anywhere in your signal chain! No longer must you suƯer with placing your filters before your fuzz if you want a dynamic filter sound!

Controls:

  • Mix: Contrary to common-sense, the mix control actually blends between low-pass and high-pass filter modes (instead of wet/dry like usual.)
  • Input: Controls the volume going into the filter section. It has enough gain to overdrive the filter input if you so desire.
  • Res: The resonance of the filter. At max settings you get those lovely cmos artifacts the wasp is known for.
  • Vol: The output level of the filter.
  • Sweep: The sensitivity of the envelope follower. This has a very large range to account for the external input, so it is recommended to start with this knob at around 9 O’clock and adjust accordingly.
  • Smooth: How quickly the filter reacts to your playing dynamics. At low settings you get a very snappy, reactive sound. At high settings you get slower sweeps.
  • Pitch: The initial frequency of the filter. Due to the (relatively) low harmonic content of guitar signals, it may only have an obvious eƯect at lower settings. Its recommended to start with the knob at about minimum and adjust accordingly.
  • Direction Switch: This determines if the filter starts closed, and opens as you play (the standard filter sound) or If it starts open and closes as you play. The position of this switch greatly impacts how the sweep, smooth, and pitch knobs function, so you may have to fiddle with the other knobs whenever you change direction.
  • The External Trigger Input: On the right side of the pedal, there is an optional side-chain input jack which allows you to trigger the envelope follower with external signals. The most common use case of this would be to place the stinger after your fuzz pedals, and send a copy of you dry signal into the trigger input to retain the dynamics of your playing as well as get the lovely sound of filtering a complex signal such as fuzz guitar, but really any audio signal can trigger the envelope (drum machines, microphones, other guitars, etc).
