Columbus was a UK‑imported guitar and bass brand from the 1970s–80s, offering affordable copies of American models like Les Pauls and Strats. Initially crafted in Japan by respected factories such as Matsumoku and Tombo, later production moved to Korea; early “lawsuit‑era” MIJ versions are still praised for punchy tone, solid playability, and surprisingly good quality for the price. While later Korean-built MkII/III models dipped in refinement, ’70s MIJ versions remain cult favourites among budget vintage aficionados.
