Overview
Don't be fooled by the size! The Riverhead RUG-2090 Unicorn knows how to pack a punch. First introduced between 1983 - 1984 out of Nagano, Japan the RUG-2090 was the first headless space-age-esque electric guitar produced by the brand. Inspired by the mid-1980s headless guitar craze, pioneered by the likes of Ned Steinberger, the Unicorn cost a premium penny at the time, retailing for $795 USD, (over $2,500 USD in today's money.)
Sitting at a compact 82cm tall by 25cm wide, the Unicorn is also rather light at only 3kg. Unicorn's are typically highly praised for their build quality, which is evident given how well the guitar has aged. This baby sounds punchy, tight, and articulate. The body-mounted humbuckers have moderate-to-hot vintage output, delivering a focused midrange with good sustain despite the compact body.
