Important Information
Similar in tone to the coveted Rhythm-55 and CR-78 machines of the same decade, the SY-50, manufactured by the National Company Japan (now Panasonic), is a classic and rare piece of Drum machine history. The SY50 features 16 rhythm presets that can be doubled up by pressing two buttons at the same time to generate unique 70's style beats. The noise generation for each percussive voice is fully analogue, and patterns can be controlled with respect to tempo, volume, and three switch toggles that subtract Snare, Clave, and cymbal from the mix.
While these machines originally featured touch-start switches on the top of the unit, the switches had a knack for corroding and breaking over time. For this particular unit, the touch bar has been removed from the top (see images). This means that in order to start and stop rhythms, a footswitch must be plugged into the back 'control' jack. Any basic amp or keyboard foot switch using 1/4" will suffice.
This unit has also been recently cleaned and serviced by our synthesizer technician.
